Bell Box Mural - Open for Submissions

A call for submissions is prepared by the Bell Box Murals Project along with the community partners and is distributed to local artists through local community organizations as well as through other arts organizations and channels.

Once a short list of artists has been chosen from the submissions, the final candidates are presented to a jury of community partners for selection. Artists will then be notified of the results and artists who have been selected to paint a mural.

Curating & Artist Selection

Artists are usually chosen by a local volunteer community jury based on four criteria:

▪ Connection to the neighbourhood

▪ Experience painting on outdoor surfaces

▪ Portfolio of past work

▪ Concept for their mural

Themes

Themes for the murals project are identified by the community partners. There may be an overall theme or separate themes for specific box locations, depending on the community need. Often the theme is related to other existing community events and initiatives. Bell does not currently allow subject matter involving religion, politics, or the depiction or specific people and faces.
