Beautification of Cabbagetown to increase tourism and reduce crime: Victorian street lights, cobblestone, benches, trees

From "Post your proposal here for the consideration of Councillor Moise"

Go to the project

Proposals:

Beautification of Cabbagetown with red cobblestone 4 way cross walks.

Introducing and implementing red herringbone cobblestone at each intersection. Creating a four way cross walk at each intersection along parliament street in Cabbagetown

Starting at Wellesley and Parliament

Winchester and Parliament

Carlton and Parliament

Gerrard and Parliament

Paying homage to Cabbagetowns former cobblestone roads and Torontos famous historical red bricks. This would create a safer walk way and an evident delineation from moving vehicles.

It would truly be stunning to bring back the heritage of the former Cabbagetown reimagined through street design and planning

Beautification of Parliament street plays an important role in increasing tourism and helping local businesses as well as lowering crime

Lets make our community in Toronto the best it can be and be proud of where we call home

Planting trees along Sherbourne Street and Bleecker Street, and Parliament Street.

Urban trees are a critical asset to cities.

“Trees reduce energy usage, remove air pollutants, filter stormwater, and cool hot city streets by providing shade and releasing water vapor.” -https://treeboston.org/tree-equity-maps/benefits-of-urban-trees/#:~:text=Urban%20trees%20are%20a%20critical,shade%20and%20releasing%20water%20vapor.

Let’s improve the air quality, mental and physical health, and add to the beautification of Sherbourne street in St James town and Bleecker Street in Cabbagetown.

“The mental and physical benefits of trees for residents are numerous. A growing body of evidence links exposure to trees with reduced rates of mortality, cardiovascular disease, stress, and depression. Living in greener areas is associated with higher levels of happiness, cognitive development, and learning outcomes. These benefits are related to a decrease in exposure to air pollution, noise, and heat, increased contact with nature, and strengthened social cohesion.”- https://treeboston.org/tree-equity-maps/benefits-of-urban-trees/#:~:text=Urban%20trees%20are%20a%20critical,shade%20and%20releasing%20water%20vapor.

Planting trees along both sides of Sherbourne from Bloor to Gerard and Bleecker street from Howard to Carlton street would create cleaner air and provide much needed shade.

A greener Toronto for every generation is important. Let’s make a difference.

Victorian Street Lamps along Parliament in Cabbagetown

Victorian style lighting to pay homage to the roots and history of the area.

Giving a glow and illumination similar to that of Palmerston.

Outdoor street lamps that light the sidewalks at night

It would truly be stunning to bring back the heritage of the former Cabbagetown through architecture and industrial design.

Beautification of Parliament street plays an important role in increasing tourism and helping local businesses as well as lowering crime.

Benches and widening sidewalks on Parliament Street in Cabbagetown

Beautification of parliament street in effort to create a healthier environment and atmosphere and detour crime.

Many real life studies and examples show that beautification can reduce crime and help with mental health.

Adding seating by providing benches, increasing the size of the sidewalk to also allow for trees

Let us make Toronto not just a city, It’s our community and place we are all proud to call home !

These are amazing initiatives that will make Cabbagetown an even more attractive place to live, visit and shop at! Any news on their progress?

Can the local BIA help with this initiative?

@Cabbagetown Resident would be great if they supported it - at least vote for it. Will you ask them?

@Martha Fusca So glad this reached the threshold to progress. Someone at Destination Toronto (the city's tourism board) told me BIAs are responsible for beautification so the BIA should definitely want to be a part of this.

Any chance at having Parliament street be a transit mall between Carlton and Gerrard? The amount of cars (and the noise they make) contribute to kind of an unpleasant atmosphere.

I would support a project to beautify Parliament St. Widen sidewalks, add greenspace and seating, improve maintenance. I think such a project should be extended at least down to Dundas to reinforce VisionZero road safety goals, especially by schools. The key would be removing/reducing on-street parking.
