East-west pedestrian crossing times: Jarvis/Wellesley
From "Traffic Regulation Review"
Go to the project

The east-west crossing time on Wellesley St at the Jarvis St intersection is WAY too short. From the time the pedestrians get the advance walk to the blinking countdown is 20 seconds at best AND there are 5 not 4 lanes to cross. Also there is a high number of both older residents and people with mobility devices/wheelchairs at this exact area. I do not understand how some intersections with 4 lanes have a LONGER walk time before the countdown. We need an extra 10 seconds added to the walk time BEFORE the countdown, which will also help the cars turning left onto Jarvis to safely complete their turn after the pedestrians have crossed and before the light turns red. I watch this intersection every day and if you don't start to walk immediately you have to RUN across to finish because the timer is simply too short.
