From "2023 PB Cluster 5"

Go to the project

The idea proposes adding 3 plaques of historical significance in the St. Lawrence Neighbourhood to promote the history of the area

Heritage Toronto staff have reviewed this idea and estimate that the cost of each heritage plaque is approximately $10,000. That is a total of $30,000 for three.

Original Description:

Goal:    To promote the local history of the St. Lawrence neighbourhood as expressed in street names and addresses

Approach:

·        Work with Heritage Toronto to identify two pilot streets whose names have historical significance

·        Develop a priority list of addresses of historical significance, i.e., 175 King St. E. (Bicyclesport); Nora Young home on Berkeley

Budget for 3 plaques @ $7,500 each:      $22,000

Note:   Although three plaques are initially proposed, this is one idea which can be scoped in a range of cost brackets, with associated investments ranging from modest to significant. It is hoped that there will be ongoing dialogue with the Councillor’s office to qualify and shape this idea further as design and cost input is received from staff experts at the City, and prior to it being submitted for voting.
