Completely agree. However, traffic lights which replace pedestrian crossings must be engineered to facilitate pedestrian priority. Pedestrians should not lose their automatic right of way (provided by a traditional crossing) due to the poor and dangerous behaviour of drivers who disregard these crossings. When a pedestrian presses the cross button at these newly lighted intersections, the light should change immediately to allow them to cross. This is facilitated in other provinces by a flashing green, when the green stops flashing it indicates a warning that a pedestrian has pressed the cross button. A second or two later, the lights then turn over. A version of this is also needed at the new lights on Shuter at Sackville and at Sumach, although more difficult to implement with a 2-way crossing.
