Pedestrian (and general) safety. Vision Zero

From "2023 PB Cluster 5"

Go to the project

Goal: I write to support the current plan to install a TRAFFIC LIGHT at Front & Frederick. This is a dangerous intersection and the lack of a light makes turning westbound onto Front from Frederick very dangerous. It also means many vehicles go the wrong way (westbound) on Taylor's Wharf Lane so that they can cross Front using the traffic light at George & Front. However, a traffic light is not enough and I strongly suggest that the sidewalks on Front Street East between George and Sherbourne on the south side and George and Frederick on the north side be widened. They are VERY narrow and there are now FAR too many pedestrians and theatre goers. For pedestrian safety and comfort and to support Vision Zero, we cannot keep adding more residents without making streetscape improvements. These projects would be best carried out (or at least planned) as a 'package' to realise 'economies of scale' and avoid having to re-do things! The City is short of money, let's not waste any of it.
