Rename the 'Eastern Avenue Diversion' street adjacent to Eastern Avenue

From "Post your proposal here for the consideration of Councillor Moise"

Go to the project

South of Eastern Avenue, between Cherry St. and Lawren Harris Sq. is a street that’s formally named ‘Eastern Avenue Diversion’. However, the street signs, as well as Google Maps, label it as ‘Eastern Ave’. This street is off of Eastern Ave, and with a similar name is causing much confusion for the neighbourhood. Cars are expected to turn off of Eastern Ave. onto Eastern Ave., and directions are difficult to give to people who are unfamiliar with the area.

It doesn't seem correct to have two streets with the same name run beside each other, and so I propose renaming this smaller street; one potential option for the street name is ‘Foundry Road/Street’, to pay tribute to the Foundry Building that is located here (which will be incorporated into the future development). This name change should take place before the area is developed further, to avoid a confusing name becoming ingrained in the community.

Thank goodness it's not Sankofa -- the dumbest name ever.

@David Crawford , Staff has taken a look and found that there is already an existing street with the word 'Foundry' in it upon review. I have reached out to the resident who originally submitted this request to my staff and am promptly resolving this with alternative names with the word 'Foundry' in it without violating city standards. As you may know, historical reviews take time. Thank you for your patience.

Councillor Moise notes "It could be very confusing to have 2 streets with similar names running beside each other.". Based on the questions I have got from people who are lost, I suggest is IS Very confusing. Foundry Street is great new name, let's move it along.

It's super confusing already. In a few years this street will become the actual address of hundreds of people moving in to the new Foundry development. Let's get this duplicate renamed before they start ordering pizza and inviting friends over to visit, or it'll be chaos. .

This is an EXCELLENT idea and one that was discussed over 10 years ago when the (wonderful) Pam McConnell was our Councillor. At that time there was general agreement that the current duplication is VERY confusing but it was decided to wait to re-name until the area adjacent was more developed. This is now so but the changes in Councillors meant the project was buried. Great it is back on top of the pile again, GO FOR IT! I walk on the "stub" quite often and am frequently stopped by people looking for Eastern Avenue addresses on east side of the Don.
