Street cleaning

When i moved to Toronto ca 25 years ago the street in front of our building was swept about once a week and the Lane adjacent every 2 or 3 months. Now the street is, maybe, swept annually and the Lane only if one nags 311. In the past leaves were swept up in the fall, now this seldom happens, catch basins get blocked and there are huge pools of water after rain. Montreal used to have specific street-sweeping days/times when parking was forbidden and on those days the sweeper truck was preceded by a traffic warden and tow truck. Most cars soon learned to move! Something we might try to emulate if the excuse for non-sweeping is parked cars.
