Original Description:

Taiaiako’n Historical Preservation Society and the Friends of Allan Gardens propose painting the Dish with One Spoon, and Two Row Wampum belts at pedestrian crosswalks around Allan Gardens. This would beautifully complement the Pride and Trans flags crosswalks in the Village, and would lift up the pedestrian experience for the whole neighbourhood! Making visible these wampum belts in Downtown Toronto’s urban landscape would encourage more people in the city to consider their own responsibilities as inhabitants or visitors to these lands. Given Allan Garden’s importance to Indigenous organizations and peoples, and the high pedestrian volumes seen around the park, Taiaiako’n and the Friends of Allan Gardens feel this would be an appropriate place for Toronto’s first wampum crosswalks. We could engage with the City of Toronto’s Transportation Services to determine which crosswalks around the park could be repainted in this way. Nya:weh, Miigwech, Thank you!
