I was born and raised in beautiful Scarborough. I have now lived in Toronto Centre and the St Lawrence Neighbourhood for more than 25 years. I moved here so that I could walk to work and I wanted to live in a walkable neighbourhood. I love to explore new neighbourhoods in Toronto and I get around by bike, walking and by transit.

In Toronto Centre, I have found a community of great people who are working to make their neighbourhood and their city a better place. I love it here !

Donna Patterson3 years ago At the North West corner of Scott St. and Front St, there is a stop sign. This stop sign is too far back from the intersection and often covered up by trees. Often the driver does not even see it.If they do see it, and stop their car, they are stopping before the intersection which is not the correct place to stop. Then because they have stopped, they drive to the intersection and don't stop, because they already have. This endangers pedestrians and cyclists, basically anyone who is crossing from East to West or from West to East. The people crossing expect that the driver will stop. But the driver doesn't because technically they already have.My request is for the stop sign to be moved to the intersection, and not covered by trees. This will be much safer for pedestrians and cyclists that are crossing at the intersection.

Many people moved to our neighbourhood so they could be close to the Market.My family goes to the Market a few times a week for regular shopping and we go every week to the Saturday Farmers' Market. We have our favourite vendors at the regular Market and the Famers' Market !The hours of the Market have now been extended during the week and the Market is now open on Sundays.Market St is pedestrianized for the summer again this year, and there is a plan to permanently close Market St to cars. The longer hours and pedestrianization of Market St will bring even more people to the Market.I have many friends from across Toronto who ride their bikes to the Market and do their shopping. Many of them tell me that it is difficult to find bike parking near the Market, especially near the Farmers' Market.I see many people travelling to the Market on bike, and in general, more and more people are using cargo bikes instead of cars when doing large amounts of shopping.More bike parking is needed near the St. Lawrence Market and also more bike parking for cargo bikes.There are bike racks on the East side of the St Lawrence Market Building but most people don't even know they are there because it is not a well-travelled area. It is also in an area that is dark and deserted and most people with bikes would not want to park their bikes there.I am requesting- 1. for the Market to put signage telling people that there is bike parking on the East side of the building and 2. for additional lighting and cameras to be installed near the bike racks to make this are safer and also to deter bike thieves.I also request for Street Furniture to add additional ring and posts on the north side of the Esplanade between Yonge St and Market St to accommodate Market customers and also customers of the restaurants and bars on the Esplanade.This idea is in line with Toronto's Vision Zero and Transform TO goals of increasing road safety for all road users, and increasing active transportation.Note: This is one idea which can be scoped in a range of cost brackets, with associated investments ranging from large to very significant. It is hoped that there will be ongoing dialogue with the Councillor’s office to qualify and shape this idea further as design and cost input is received from staff experts at the City, and prior to it being submitted for voting.

This is a very popular park for so many reasons. The park was recently refurbished and the Michael Comstock Pavilion and the Children's Playground were opened. There are many popular restaurants close by and many people work close by.Many neighbourhood events take place in St James Park including the annual Canada Day celebration, events from the Friends of St James Park and the Old Town BIA sponsors events throughout the year including musical events, movies, exercise classes, plays and holiday carol sing-alongs.St James Park is between Adelaide and King Streets- Adelaide has a very popular Cycle Track and King St is now a Transit Priority street which makes it easier and safer for people on bikes to ride to the park.There is not enough bike parking for people who come to the park.My request is for Street Furniture to add more bike parking in these locations: the south side of Adelaide from the St James Church parking lot to Jarvis Street, and the north side of King St from St James Church to Jarvis.There is a rack for bike parking on the south side of Adelaide near Jarvis but it is in a very awkward place and is never used by cyclists. This rack could be moved to a better location.Since the children's playground is so popular it would also be great to have some bike parking close by that would accommodate cargo bikes as these are becoming more popular, especially with parents travelling with their children.Having more bike parking here will encourage people to ride their bikes more to the Park.This idea is in line with Toronto's Vision Zero and Transform TO goals of increasing road safety for all road users and increasing active transportation.Note: This is one idea which can be scoped in a range of cost brackets, with associated investments ranging from large to very significant. This is a very popular area- many people work in the offices in Berkeley Castle, and the Berkeley Cafe is very popular.Many more people are coming to this area since Jamii Esplanade opened their permanent home in Berkeley Castle. At least a few times a week there are events in this location- for example: music, dancing, seniors' exercise classes, and indigenous art, and music workshops.Also with the new cycle track on the Esplanade and the opening of the cycle trail at Parliament Square Park, it is easier and safer for people on bikes to ride here.There are only 2 ring and post bike racks on the north side of the street. I have often ridden my bike here and there is nowhere to park my bike. There is a bike rack at the St Lawrence Community Centre but it is used by people going to the Community Centre. The park is very popular- with the dog fountain, the Flat Iron building and the many buskers and events sponsored by the Old Town BIA like Berczy Beats and other musical events. Many people also work close by and come to the park on their lunch breaks.Many people like to bike to the park and sit on the grass or on the benches or at the tables and chairs.In the past, there were more ring and posts near the park, on Front St, and on Wellington but much of it was removed because of construction and has not been replaced.My request is for Street Furniture to add a row of ring and posts on both sides of Wellington St, between Scott Street and Church St., and on the North side of Front St, also between Scott St and Church St.Having more bike parking here will encourage people to ride their bikes here.This idea is in line with Toronto's Vision Zero and Transform TO goals of increasing road safety for all road users and increasing active transportation.Note: This is one idea which can be scoped in a range of cost brackets, with associated investments ranging from large to very significant.
