Nighthawk Lane Revitalization

Mel H•10 months ago Nighthawk Lane is an overlooked laneway in the Moss Park area that currently lacks lighting, maintenance, and safe walkability. Due to its secluded nature and proximity to the Toronto East Drop-In Centre, it has become a gathering spot at night, which can feel unsafe for nearby residents—particularly those in adjacent low-income housing who rely on the lane as a direct route to the Dundas streetcar. Revitalizing this space through public art, lighting, and community design would promote safety, support inclusive use, and create a more welcoming environment for all. This project has the potential to transform Nighthawk Lane into a vibrant, accessible connector that reflects the strength and resilience of the surrounding community.

Beautifying the Streetscape on Dundas St between Jarvis and Parliament

Mel H•2 years ago Bringing attention to the section of Dundas Street East between Jarvis and Parliament. This area, despite being a major route to the Don Valley Parkway (DVP), is currently neglected and in dire need of revitalization. There are several local businesses striving to succeed in this community. However, the lack of aesthetic appeal and general upkeep in this area is a significant hindrance to their success. By investing in beautification efforts for Dundas Street, we can make our community more appealing, support local businesses, and enhance the overall image of our neighborhood. I propose the following improvements: 1. Installation of public art and murals to brighten up the streetscape. 2. Planting of flowers, trees and hanging baskets to make the street more inviting. 3. Upgrading street furniture, such as lighting, to improve safety

This area, despite being a major route to exit on to the Don Valley Parkway (DVP), is currently neglected and in dire need of revitalization. There are a few local businesses, (Ju Sushi for example), striving to succeed in this community. However, the lack of aesthetic appeal and general upkeep in this area is a significant hindrance to their success. By investing in beautification efforts for Dundas Street, we can attract more visitors, support local businesses, and enhance the overall image of our neighborhood. I propose the following improvements: 1. Installation of public art and murals to brighten up the streetscape between Jarvis and Parliament. 2. Flowers and hanging planters to make the street more inviting. 3. Upgrading street furniture, such as benches and lighting, to improve safety.
