2024 PB Cluster 3

Councillor Moise is excited to bring Participatory Budgeting to Ward 13, Toronto Centre, following the lead of my colleague Councillor Carroll who has successfully run participatory budgeting in her ward since 2015, funding 21 projects and counting.

Participatory Budgeting (PB) is a system of direct democracy where residents suggest and then vote on how funds are spent within their community.

Each year, different neighbourhoods will be selected based on available Community Benefits Funds, the capacity of city staff and my team, and active capital projects already underway.

In Toronto Centre, we have 14 neighbourhoods, so we have divided the ward into four clusters of neighbourhoods to ensure we can properly manage and facilitate local processes as well as complete the successful projects in a timely manner.

This year, there is $750,000 available for neighbourhood enhancements within each cluster. My team and I will facilitate a Participatory Budgeting process in the following neighbourhoods:

Cluster 3 - East of Yonge Street, South of Carlton Street, North of Queen Street, West of Parliament Street

  • Cabbagetown South
  • Downtown Yonge
  • Garden District
  • McGill-Granby
  • Moss Park

Idea Brainstorming

April 12, 2024 - July 1, 2024

On April 13, 2024, and April 16, 2024, information sessions will be hosted to provide a background understanding of the process and step-by-step breakdown of Participatory Budgeting and how it will increase involvement.

The goal of public participation is mainly to provide transparency and to increase civil and neighbourly engagement on capital projects that concern all neighbours. Once the list of ideas for projects is received, feasibility based on engineering, plumbing, and legality will be analyzed. The funding required for each project will be shared with the community.

Community members will be the ones generating ideas. Community members will also have their ideas judged and formally voted on by their neighbours based on cost, timeline, and feasibility.

All ideas are welcome to be commented on, proposed or sent as they will be recorded for the next stage before June 30, 2023.

PLEASE INCLUDE PHOTOS, GRAPHICS, AND AS MUCH INFORMATION IF POSSIBLE*
