Barbara Hall Park Dog Off-Leash Area Improvements
About the Project
The Dog Off-Leash Area in Barbara Hall Park is in need of some tender loving care. Omitted from the reconstruction of the west half of the park ahead of World Pride in 2014, the OLA was overlooked and has not been adequately maintained.
This neighbourhood is growing at a fast pace and the number of people with dogs is steadily increasing. The dog park stewards take pride in the dog park as well as the community and submitted the PB proposal in an effort to create a safer and more enjoyable environment for dogs and their owners.
In 2023, through Participatory Budgeting, the community voted to provide $350,000 in s37 community benefits for enhancements to the Barbara Hall Park OLA.
Improvements will include:
- Levelling and resurfacing with artificial turf.
- New irrigation system and hose bibs access.
- Permanent agility equipment.
- New metal fence wrapped around the park excluding the south side.
- New double door entrances.
- New and extended south wooden fence.
- South retaining wall structural assessment.
- Exploring the creation and expansion for a small dog park area on the east side.
- Privacy bushes along the north fence.
- Additional lighting for safety.
- Security and signage.
