BudgetTO 2024

The City’s budget is about working together to build a safe, caring and affordable city where everyone belongs. Your feedback is an important part of the process.

From November 1 to 30, you are invited to share your ideas about the City’s 2024 Budget and Toronto’s Future at virtual and in-person consultations.

This year, there are four phases to the budget process, including:

  1. Pre-Budget Consultations (November 2023)
  2. Budget Launch (January 2024)
  3. Committee Review & Public Deputations (January 2024)
  4. Approval Phase (February 2024)

The timelines of each phase can be found below. We want to hear from residents and to voice your opinions at the City.

Residents are encouraged to sign up for public deputations on January 22, 2024, and January 23, 2024, to speak to the Budget Committee. However, we recognize this is not always accessible or plausible for residents, so we have included a space for comments on our platform. You can leave your comments below.

Mayor Veto Period

February 15, 2024 5:00 AM - March 1, 2024 5:00 AM

Update: At the conclusion of the City Council Meeting on February 15th, the Mayor submitted to the Clerk Mayoral Decision 4-2023 giving written notice to shorten the 10-day period for the Mayor to veto an amendment resolution passed by City Council to the proposed budget. The budget is now deemed to be adopted.

The Mayor has up to 10 days to veto any amendments passed by City Council due to the Strong Mayor powers. If they do not exercise that veto, the budget is deemed to be adopted by City Council.

If the Mayor does exercise their veto, City Council has up to 15 days to override the Mayor’s veto with a 2/3rds vote, at which point, the budget is deemed to be adopted by City Council.
