Cabbagetown Southwest Heritage Conservation District Pole Wraps

Overview

My office is proud to bring a new community-led project to life in the Cabbagetown South Heritage Conservation District — and it is one you will likely notice the next time you walk through the neighbourhood.

We are installing custom-designed hydro pole wraps that celebrate the Cabbagetown Southwest Heritage Conservation District and the people who call it home. These wraps will be placed on hydro poles throughout the district south of the Cabbagetown BIA, making the neighbourhood easier to recognize, giving residents a stronger sense of local pride, and keeping our streets cleaner by preventing graffiti.

For years, Business Improvement Areas across Toronto could design and install their own hydro pole wraps to promote their commercial areas. I believe that residential communities deserve the same opportunity. Neighbourhood pride is not just for business districts — it belongs to everyone. This project is a step toward making sure that resident communities get to show off what makes their neighbourhood special too.

Funding

This project is funded by $107,000 in Section 37 Community Benefit Funds. Section 37 funds come from agreements made with developers when they build larger projects in the city. Instead of that value disappearing into general city revenue, it gets directed back into the local community in a meaningful way. This is your neighbourhood's money being put to work — right here, right where you live.

Timeline

Work is already underway. The first 2 test installations will go up on July 21, 2026, in front of Gerrard Street Library and Gerrard/Ontario, giving the community an early look at what the finished wraps will look like on the street.

From there, the project will move quickly. All 147 hydro poles across the district are expected to be wrapped and completed by the end of Fall 2026.
