Gerrard Street East Reconstruction
The City of Toronto is embarking on a significant project to enhance cycling infrastructure, pedestrian safety, and the overall streetscape along Gerrard Street East from Sherbourne Street to Parliament Street. This initiative aims to improve safety for all road users while maintaining the roadway for driving, transit, deliveries, and emergency services. The project will address critical issues such as enhancing the public realm for both local residents and visitors.
- Improving Safety: The primary goal is to create a safer environment for cyclists, pedestrians, and motorists.
- Road Reconstruction: The project includes the reconstruction of the road and the replacement of the aging watermain and substandard water services.
- Enhancing Public Realm: By redesigning Anniversary Park and the Gerrard East slip lane, the city aims to create more inviting public spaces for the community.
- Cost and Timeline: Construction is set to commence in Q2 2025, with a targeted completion date by the end of 2026. The allocated budget for this project is a crucial aspect that will determine its scope and scale.

Phases
Design Development and Tendering of Documents
Based on consultation feedback, design refinements, constituent comments and council reporting, we will move to the next stage.
As of 2026, significant obstacles and changes were presented by the Ontario Provincial Government's Bill 60, Schedule 5, "municipality shall not reduce or permit a reduction in the number of lanes that are available for use by motor vehicles and make changes to the related regulation-making powers. Amendments are also made respecting the reimbursement of municipalities that provide support or information respecting the removal or reconfiguration of bicycle lanes required under the Act."
Due to these legislative changes, the City of Toronto's Transportation Services, as well as Parks and Recreation, will need to reconfigure ongoing designs and contracting agreements to fulfill provincial guidelines. As a result, roadwork and park revitalization have been delayed.
