Laneway Naming: North Star Way

An application was submitted earlier in 2023 by a resident to name the street parallel south from Queen Street between St. Paul Street and Bright Street North Star Way.

The street lies adjacent to the Bright Street Parkette to the south and is currently not named.

The North Star was a guide in the sky that historically showed people who were seeking freedom the "way" to Canada and to freedom.

Street Naming Application and Paper Work

January 27, 2023 - April 1, 2023

The naming application for the street south parallel of Queen street between St. Paul Street and Bright Street. For the sake of fairness, transparency, and sharing knowledge, our office would like to share the process of naming a street.

All street naming/renaming proposals, whether a member of the public or a developer, must reach out to the Land and Prosperity division to submit any applications and must include the following forms:

  1. Street Naming Application
  2. Street Naming Consent
  3. Rationale/ Background
  4. Community Support – 50% of residents directly abutting the street to be named or 75% of residents directly abutting the street for a renaming
  5. Additional Community Support – Councillor, bia, RAs, NIAs, Local Community Organizations etc.
