Laneway Naming: North Star Way

An application was submitted earlier in 2023 by a resident to name the street parallel south from Queen Street between St. Paul Street and Bright Street North Star Way.

The street lies adjacent to the Bright Street Parkette to the south and is currently not named.

The North Star was a guide in the sky that historically showed people who were seeking freedom the "way" to Canada and to freedom.

Commemorative Rationale Review

July 1, 2023 4:00 AM - July 18, 2023 4:00 AM

Commemorative Naming:

commemorative naming proposals get forwarded to the division of Economic Development and Culture for review of the rationale and background to confirm if they are compliant with the commemorative framework/guiding principles. Once review is complete, staff drafts a report to the next Community Council.

Non-Commemorative Naming:

Non-commemorative naming proposals do not need to be circulated to Economic Development and Culture division. Staff will only need to review and provide a strong rationale of the naming that indicates significance to Toronto, Ontario, or Canada.

If the name clearly indicates relevance to the city, province, or nation and if the rationale is easily digested, it may go on to council approval.

Please review Street Naming Policy to see the technical components that are reviewed.
