
Rehabilitation of Eastern/Adelaide Bridges
The City of Toronto is set to refurbish several bridges, including the Eastern Avenue Bridge , Richmond Street East over King Street East Bridge, Adelaide Street East over King Street East Bridge, and the Don Valley Parkway Ramp over the Don River. This important initiative aims to bring these structures up to current safety standards, ensuring their longevity. Additionally, a multi-use trail will be constructed on the Eastern Avenue Bridge as part of this effort. Scheduled under the Council-approved 2024 Capital Works Program, the project will be operational from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week, with the Don Valley Parkway Ramp necessitating a temporary closure for completion of the work. Advance notice will be provided regarding the closure dates and duration.

- Replacement of existing asphalt pavement and waterproofing
- Deck top concrete repairs
- Expansion joint replacement
- Reconstruction of deck overhangs and parapet (barrier) walls
- Steel girder end strengthening and recoating
- Repair of fatigue-prone steel components
- Replacement of deficient bearings
- Concrete patch repairs of substructure and deck soffit elements

The Don Valley Parkway Ramp will require a full closure for a few months to facilitate the completion of the work. Details regarding the dates and duration of the closure will be provided in advance. Streets below the bridges including St. Lawrence Street, Lower River Street, Bayview Avenue, as well as the Don Valley Parkway – will experience periodic road impacts throughout the project. These disruptions will not all occur at the same time. All impacted roads will continue to stay open to traffic.
Cyclists:
This work will impact cycling routes on Bayview Avenue and Lower River Street. Details of the impacts will be provided in advance of the work.
Parks and Trails:
Sections of Underpass Park will be closed at various times throughout construction depending on the nature of the work. The work will be staged so that the Underpass Park will not be fully closed at any time.
Art Installations:
The artwork in Underpass Park, including the mirrored art piece “Mirage”, will be removed and safely stored before construction begins. It will be reinstalled once construction has been completed.
Farmers Market:
The construction work will also allow for the Underpass Park Farmers Market to continue to operate.
