About the Project

We're installing cafe tables and chairs at St. James Park.

In 2023, the community voted to provide $20,000 in s37 community benefits through Participatory Budgeting to initiate a pilot project aimed at beautifying our streets.

It's a project close to our hearts, thanks to the efforts of the Old Town Toronto BIA, formerly known as the St. Lawrence Market Neighbourhood BIA. The community ranked it second in importance, highlighting a real need.

Why are we doing this? Many in our community have shared their experiences of not having enough seating. This is especially true for residents and restaurant patrons during the warmer months. Local businesses have also voiced their concerns, and we're listening.

This project will cost $20,000, covering materials, shipping, and labor. The funds come from Section 37, which I've allocated specifically for this. We’re making sure we spend wisely to enhance our community spaces.

The tables and chairs were ready for installation in the first quarter of 2025, but were held in storage due to bad weather. Recently, these tables and chairs were installed in April of 2025 in partnership with the Old Town Toronto BIA, just in time for spring!
