Sumach Shuter Parkette Redesign
About the Project
Sumach-Shuter Parkette improvements are on their way!
The City is undertaking a redesign of Sumach-Shuter Parkette with a primary focus on serving the local community. Our objective is to implement park enhancements that will elevate recreational and leisure opportunities for residents while preserving the park's lush green ambiance and safeguarding existing trees as much as possible.
The initiative for proposed park improvement to Sumach-Shuter Parkette was a result of the Corktown Parks Master Plan that was prepared from 2014 to 2015. The Master Plan’s purpose was to develop a holistic approach to park rehabilitation, taking into account changing demographics in the neighbourhood, increased population density and changing recreational tendencies.
In September of 2020, City of Toronto's Parks, Forestry, and Recreation hosted their final stakeholder meeting for the city-wide study of dog off-leash areas. The purpose was to share and seek feedback on the final draft recommendations and implementations of dog parks.
